Matema Beach
Matema is an active market village with a beach on the coast of Lake Nyasa, situated 45 kilometres from Kyela.
In Matema you can enjoy:-
- The beach, for sunbathing and relaxing
- Lake Nyasa, for swimming,snorkelling,ornamental fish watching direct in the lake waters with your naked eyes,skuba diving and fishing
- Lyulilo and Ikombe pottery industry which are both in Ikombe village on the shores of the Livingstone mountains.
- Nakyala ritual cave on the tip of the lake Nyasa shore with the Livingstone mountains as well
- Ornamental fish viewing at the cave direct into the lake water, snorkelling or scuba diving
- Mwalalo water falls of the Mwalalo river which is in the Livingstone mountains in Matema.It is about 2 hours up climbing the mountains and about 1 hour or even less back to the village.
- Village Tours.These include cocoa,banana and red palm oil tours which take you to watch the proccessing of the cocoa and red palm oil processing.
- Hippo watching.Hippos are on the confluence of the river Lufilyo one of the big 4 Kyela rivers flowing its water in lake Nyasa.It is about an hour walk to the river from Matema.
